About Ready, Set, Blast!Ready, Set, Blast!

Healthy kids, fun activities and a little competition is the perfect recipe for a great summer. They’re just some of the key ingredients you’ll find in Ready, Set, Blast! an out-of-this-world experience presented by United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

During the summer, it’s easy for children to fall out of the habit of keeping up with physical fitness and eating nutritional foods. Ready, Set, Blast! provides a fun way for kids and their parents to stay active and healthy all summer long — and it’s easy. Kids and their parents simply visit the program’s engaging, space-themed web site or mobile app and track their foods and activities. When they do, they’re entered to win great prizes, including an iPod Shuffle and Six Flags tickets.

Oh, and one more thing: Your school could win $1,000 for its health and wellness program. You just need to have the most Ready, Set, Blast! participants.

SpaceCadetReady, Set, Blast! App

The Ready, Set, Blast! app, available in both English and Spanish, is free and available through the Apple Store. It provides an easy-to-use way to stay connected and engaged with Ready, Set, Blast!, United Way’s children’s health program aimed at instilling kids with fun, healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

With the app, participants can track their healthy food choices, log their fitness activities, and monitor their program rewards. The app is also a terrific resource, featuring important health tips, kid-friendly recipes and much more. A parent or guardian can register for an account and create additional user accounts for their children, which will be associated under them for safety, anonymity, monitoring and control.

And that’s what this app is all about — getting kids active in a fun, engaging way so that healthy habits and values remain for a lifetime.

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas

If you live in Dallas, Collin, Rockwall or southern Denton counties, we work for you. Since 1924, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas has given people in North Texas ways to improve lives in our community.

Today, the best way to make the biggest possible impact is to first focus on areas that change people’s lives forever: preparing kids to graduate and succeed, helping families leave poverty permanently and enabling people to live healthy, responsible lives.

United Way amplifies every contribution you make to help the community address these big issues. Volunteers just like you give nearly 17,000 hours of their time to find the best ways to invest gifts to the United Way Community Impact Fund, so every dollar you give makes the biggest possible impact. United Way also directs the passion and expertise of more than 6,500 volunteers a year toward work that helps people change their lives forever. And we give everyone tools to become more informed advocates for addressing the pressing issues in North Texas.

Healthy Zone School Recognition Program®

Parents of overweight children pay $220 more per year in health care expenses. And recently health experts reported that obesity is a major reason that this generation of children may be the first to have shorter lives than their parents.

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and The Cooper Institute® have joined forces to fight this epidemic and help instill healthy habits in children that will last a lifetime. The culmination of years of research and a two-year pilot has resulted in the
Healthy Zone School Recognition Program®.
